Gardening the environment

Nearly a year ago, storms caused massive damage across large areas of Victoria. Earlier this month, the Dja Dja Wurrung Clans Aboriginal Corporation (DJAARA) announced its partnership with VicForests to restore Country in the Wombat State Forest following the June 2021 storms.

Fallen trees in such high numbers pose a big fire risk. Removing them will reduce the fuel load, which is substantial and has been worrying the local community who have called for its removal since last June.

Listen to DJAARA‘s CEO Rodney Carter’s interview on the ABC Ballarat about the importance of traditional owners managing country – and the concept of gardening the environment. (The interview starts at around 2:15:00)
