Victorian Industry Minister visits AKD in Colac

This week we were very pleased to welcome Victorian Minister for Industry and Advanced Manufacturing, the Hon Colin Brooks MP, to AKD’s Colac site – a key hub in Victoria’s wood fibre and advanced manufacturing supply chain.

The Minister toured the facility alongside representatives from Regional Development Victoria and Victorian Forest Products Association, gaining firsthand insight into AKD’s impressive innovation, technology and local investment.

🔹 AKD is Australia’s largest softwood sawmiller
🔹 The Colac site alone supports 300 local jobs and processes 600,000 cubic metres of timber annually
🔹 The site is a national leader in recovery and optimisation technology, helping maximise use of every log

With the housing market under considerable pressure that is flowing through and impacting the industry, it was a valuable opportunity to discuss the need for strong policy settings that support domestic manufacturing and sovereign timber supply – and enable more houses sooner.

👏 Thank you, Minister Brooks, for your genuine interest in our sector and your commitment to growing advanced manufacturing in regional Victoria.

And big thanks to the AKD team for hosting us!
